Collections are nothing new, large corporations clued in a long time ago to the value and prestige of owning art, some of the greatest collections in existence are owned by big businesses – more and more banks are taking notice and have started to offer advice to clients, pointing them towards art as a major investment,or “passion investments” as it is currently referred to. Many more companies and firms are realizing that owning a contemporary art collection can mean a fresh start, a way to re-articulate and re-establish ones image in the 21st century, while keeping true to their long standing histories and corporate identities.

A client of ours recently commissioned a beautiful, large sculpture for their main lobby by our long time contributor Dennis Lin – a major step away from the classic Canadian landscape paintings usually found in the business district this piece (2" x 2" x 13,824 Lineal inches Hemlock), made out of reclaimed Hemlock from the Queens Wharf was commissioned for more reasons than diversifying their portfolio – it was a way for this prestigious, historical Canadian law firm to re-articulate their relevance amongst the best and brightest graduating from Law school – a distinct visual clue to their re-branding and asserting their importance as their clients get younger. They have found that bringing in the best in contemporary Canadian art was a way to attract the equivalent in the world of law – taping into a pool of sharp, young lawyers, while holding true to their long history of success. We here at Tatar Art Projects we have seen more of an increase in these types of commissions and have helped many large companies and corporations with the acquisition and commissioning of contemporary Canadian and international art.

And to all the lovers of Art out there, we at TAP would like to wish everyone a Happy Valentines Day.
