Since the opening of the Toronto location of the Thompson Hotel chain, a heightened sense of attention has been brought to the luxury hotel industry developing in town. With its cool mix of art and design, and a rooftop patio so exclusive that only the movers and shakers are allowed up there - the hotel, opened in early 2010, has paved the way, casting a spot light on our city as a go to destination, while providing a hot spot for the locals. Built by Tony Cohen and Peter Freed, the hotels interiors were furnished with contemporary art works provided by Tatar Art Projects.

Always taking an innovative approach to decor, The Thompson Hotels have been praised for their approach to interior design, making sure that art is an important element and clear focal point of their properties. The interior of the Toronto property was designed by Studio Gaia in New York, with works by artists David Drebin, Javier Marisca, and others. The hotel is reminiscent of a New York gallery, showcasing innovative contemporary art and decor. The Thompson has become a key destination in its surroundings, having become fully integrated in the Toronto’s art and design district. Consisting of three high-rise towers with floor-to-ceiling windows, private 40-seat screening rooms, two restaurants (Scarpetta, The Counter a 24-HOUR DINER), and creative interior design, each property in the Thompson chain offers distinct architecture and design elements, unique to its location.

The Thompson Hotel has become a go to location for the city’s in-crowd -- and although the hotel has received a lot of attention for being the new hot spot, it promises to hold on to the hype and stay relevant for years to come. The Thompson will host an exciting New Years Eve party, granting access to the Lobby Bar, Rooftop Bar, 1812, and the Wellington Room. Tatar Art Projects will be closed for the holidays and reopening on January 4, 2011
